Den Harrow - Charleston - Den Harrow - The original - and our third - video for Den Harrow (Baby Records) - usual cast of thousands - look out for Barbie Wilde (Blue Hair) and the two dancers from Hot Gossip who appeared with Den live on tv... Crazy story, as usual... the dresses (all original 1920s - hired at great cost) were ruined in the swimming pool scene...

Jim Hession / The Charleston /James P. Johnson /stride

http://www.artistopia.com/hessionsession New piano CD's available as of April,2008 James P. Johnson, the father of stride piano, made history in 1923 by penning the quintessential pop tune and dance craze of the 1920's{better known as the "jazz age"}. Johnson, a student of Eubie Blake, followed Blake's 1921 "Shuffle Along" Broadway success with his own show, "Runnin' Wild". Here he utilizes the "Habenera" rhythm as the distinctive musical feature of the Charleston. This rendition leads off with a rubato treatment of the original verse. This piece was posted at the request of a YouTube viewer. Martha and I have done this as a piano/vocal feature in concerts for many years. This is a totally improvised rendition and stylistic elements of both Eubie Blake and James P. Johnson appeared as inevitable contributions to the mix. What a great addition to the stride repertoire for any two handed player!

Charleston - Jumpstyle version (Al Minns and Leon James)

Charleston vs Jumpstyle Al Minns and Leon James The Charleston is a dance named for the city of Charleston, South Carolina. The rhythm was popularized in the United States of America by a 1923 tune called The Charleston by composer/pianist James P. Johnson which originated in the Broadway show Runnin' Wild and became one of the most popular hits of the decade. Jumpstyle is a style of electronic music that has evolved from hardstyle and includes influences from hard dance. Unlike hardstyle, it does not have an off kick bassline, basing itself more on the kick drum. It is a new genre in the hard dance scene and has its origins in Belgium although is slowly spreading across Europe and even into Israel. It's also popular in the United States, especially on the east coast (New Jersey, Chicago), and on the west coast (Los Angeles).
