- yeh thats the same shit that bummed hendrix out too. hendrix said that ppl want to see him all over the stage , picking with his teeth, and he just didnt feel that all the time. just be there for the music. its our only escape from the world we live in...some famous philosopher said that!!!
- Very little emotion displayed. If I could play like that, I would be all over that stage - like a fool, grovin' on the insane tones that my being could emit. No musician, in fact, is engaging outwardly - sort of kicked back, basking in the sound.
- John Mayer isnt even close to Derek. what the fuck are you talking about?
- Derek Truck is a unique guitarist due to the fact that he doesn't care how he looks like to the viewer(style+showmanship) but he emphasizes more on the music itself as what need to be heard of.. He is a calm but extraordinary guitarist. Sometimes an extraordinary guitarist dance like Britney Spears but the music is a bit dull (compared to the body language that he's expressing...)
- i saw the allman brothers this summer and i say when he played this song this solo was at least seven miutes! He is the guitar of the new melinum!
- lovin this video!! leave me a comment im on cam and bored 1Q
- I'd forgotten what quality music was and how to build a quality lead. Derek starts from the most gentle to the stratosphere and the band complements. Haven't heard quality playing like that for years. First rate guys!
- I saw Duane Allman play live at the Filmore...Butch is as good as Duane was.
- nah but i do love the johny boy
- yeah sorry, Derek Trucks is on a whole other level. Mayer even pretty much says that in an interview
- In my opinion, derek trucks has more personality on guitar... mayer gets his stuff from hendrix and srv when he jams.. A LOT of it comes from them... watch "Where the light is"
- john mayer owns him :D
- but Derek uses a 65' super reverb which is a really clean amp, he gets his "overdriven" sound from his speakers which are pyle drivers, they are made for car stereos so they break up very easy at low volumes and when you crank the amp it sounds like you're using a tube overdrive pedal
- i play a 50th anniversary 54 reissue strat, AND a 61 reissue SG, there is no way you can get that kind of sustain from a Fender or anything with a bolt on neck for that matter, Gibsons have so much sustain due to the set neck and angled headstock where Fender uses bolt ons with a straight headstock, most of the string energy is absorbed by the bolts where a Gibson resonates like the body and neck are a solid piece of wood, but its true about the amps, ones with thick gain will sustain better
- john mayer is my favorite guitarist but derek trucks is so much better i love his playing so much especially the slide
- Landreth's innovative approach to technique is cool (especially the right hand), but the material he plays isn't of this caliber, IMHO.
- Dreams is my favorite Allman's tune. To understand about Duane and why people are so passionate about his playing, a good thing would be to directly compare Derek's playing here with Duane's playing on the original recording on the Allman's first album. If you listen carefully, you can hear why Derek deserves his high reputation, but you will also hear why Duane's playing is considered untouchable by many. There is just something about Duane's glides... they're really "out there".
- You're right..and Katrina was JUST a hurricane. PLEASE!
- I think your opinion is right. I have said before that with a slide this young man cannot be touched. He is ranked (I believe by Guitar player magazine) as #81 in the entire world which I believe is short changing him. He has an understanding of the instrument that is posessed by few. His attitude is that of a humble young man and he has great respect for those who came before him. One day his name will be mentioned among the greats but he still has so far to go.
- Derek is so young and raw right now. He has so much growing to do, yet he is still one of the top guitar players in the world. When it is all said and done & he has lived his life, he will be considered one of the best of all time IMO.
- is that an SG 61 reissue right???i own a SG standard in heritage cherry too...but i think the sustain isnt only a matter of what guitar u play(though gibson are the best for it..) in a good amp every guitar gain a good sustain....and stratocasters can do that i believe
- wooo i like stevie ray VON
- Try to get tone and sustain like that on strat...good luck! Fenders = sutain of a banjo!
- yeah i hear that all blues bass line, nice catch
- Derek is in fact amazing, however Sonny Landreth has got to be the most original slide guitarist ever. Truly in a league of his own. To compare musicians of this caliber is just silly
