  1. That is a very logical explanation actually. On the one hand it is very selfish, but logically it makes sense if you are Hinault.
  2. En este tour Greg Lemond respeto a su patrón,por que tenía con que ganar.
  3. bien
  4. I think Andy Hampsten (in an interview with CycleSport) has the best account here. He says that, by attacking every day, Hinault was pursuing a kind of kamikazee strategy that would either give him an indisputable victory or soften the competition up for Lemond. That is, he was pursuing a strategy that, whether it won the race for himself or for Lemond, would make him look in control at all times. Hampsten: "it was kind of selfish, but not outside the context of good team tactics."
  5. Hinault was accused by lemond of trying to undermine his leader status, but hinault was saying he was using these tactics to make Lemond a better rider, and not have it on a plate, the debate goes on to this day!
  6. Hinault pulled this exact same move with Delgado the next year (1986) -- gaining five minutes on the first mountain stage through a two-man attack. The difference was that in 1986, instead of then defending his advantage, he attacked again on the second day in the mountains, and wound up cracking on the final climb, losing most of the time he'd gained on the previous day.
  7. Hinault always did this kind of work himself, in spite of having a strong team, just to remind everyone who was boss.
  8. N one knows what happened to French cycling after Hinault, its a mystery.
  9. The images of the famous "H" bomb...Herrera-Hinault....The best climber of his generation...and one of the most elegant, brave and great rider in the modern times......unfortunately the French Cycling dissapeared after Hinault....
  10. thats a leader. leading the pack not like armstrong pussy.
  11. The good old days when bikes were 22-23 lbs and climbing gear was 42x21; real men!
