    Its not really all that easy for Supes these days. Though we are in an era of neo-classicism where people are embracing every obscure hipster reference they can get their hands on, we're still in an era that values gray characters and underdogs. I've got a lot of geeks for friends and almost all of them feel they cant relate to Superman as well as they can Batman. And so theyre uninsterested. Unfortunately this movie came out around the time that started to come into effect.

    I liked the film, but I never saw Superman I or II. I'm guessing for die hard Supes fans, Superman Returns is to Superman I and II, what Hayden Christensen is to original Star Wars. Even though I'm jest a casual fan, I could tell Superman having a son is a ridiculous and stupid plot. The next movie should have Lex surgically disfiguring his son (with a kryptonite razor!!!) and making him Bizarro. Then green lantern and Batman will come in with kryptonite gun and shoot him to death.

    The latest alien movie was made by fanbois. I remember when X-Files first started, I read about how the producers didn't want to hire Gillian Anderson because she "didn't look good in a bikini". And Chris Carter fought tooth and nail to keep Scully and Mulder from having a romantic angle. The producers are in love with the lowest common denominator, the easily amused, the no risk money. Funny thing is, when you let the talented people work, you end up with hits that keep bringing returns...

    Actually if most of these films were made by fanboys working in the industry they would probably be better realized. What you have are producers catering to statistics and trying out new blood- thusly all these first timers who swear they read comics all the time. Everyone friggin read comics! What i mean is you cant really hype most of these academy award winning movies because they're not blockbusters. People confuse blockbusters with being the entire make up of modern cinema.

    AGREED!!! Good movie (not great), Amazing effects that where very believable, a little rehashed with the story line but still okay. But the Single Mom Lois concept with Superman's child was ridiculous subplot..

    You don't have to live for a hundred years to be able to see movies that were made 100 years ago. I know good movies are still made. More bad movies are made, and they're made more often with big production budgets with zero shame by fanbois who make films that belong on YT, not the cinema. When I finally got S-Returns on dvd, I just sat there feeling the energy drain out of me, feeling helpless. All that money. All that hype. All that build up. For this!? It felt like "Phantom Menace" again...
