  2. you aint kiddin
  3. Technically superb
  4. chillingly good! We need 'fresh' new guitar heros - Derek is one of the best.
  5. Shit, I grew up during the time of the Allman Brothers heyday with Duane and Berry Oakley. I was totally in to them but this guy is a sick, sick guitar player.
  6. 3:42- 3:52.....perfect
  7. i was there! front row and it was HOT!!
  8. It's definitely not straight dorian. He's jumping back and forth between that and natural minor with the aforementioned chromatic ideas. In the first 5 seconds of the solo he's already hit a natural 6th.
  9. MY GOD! i've never heard anything this awesome in like 2 years!
  10. Can't wait to see him again on New Year's Eve at the Fox Theatre.
  11. btw, the comment below is a response to Bucetinho, who said that between 3:08 and 3:16 Derek was missing the key
  12. Derek's doing that on purpose, he didn't "miss the key". He's quoting saxophonist John Coltrane from the song "Acknowledgment" off the album A Love Supreme. What Trucks is doing (and one of many things Coltrane is famous for) is playing a line, and then playing it again up a major third (two whole tones higher). This creates a cycle: after moving up a major third three times, you're back in the original key. I think Derek did a great job with it.
  13. Hes amazing when hes NOT using the slide, and when that thing goes in i just melt. Amazing.
  14. I've heard about this dude for awhile, now.I heard some of his music on "Deep Tracks" on XM radio.Very impressive,I like it.I 've always liked the Allman Brothers.I'm a hard-core Frank Zappa fan.Trucks is one of the best i've ever heard.Good to that there is some "new blood" out there that can seriously JAAMMM!!!!
  15. Undoubtedly the best guitarist of the past 10 years. Stunning solo.
  16. I used to hang out w/ my brother Dereck off of University Blvd. in Jax.,Fl Used to go watch him play at Jax.,Bch.w/ my girlfriend at the time,Renee. He is a Legend, yes, the man can play...C&D raised him right!
  17. did you see him slip on his glass slide at 2:09 ?? awesome ! !
  18. Rolling Stones calls him the "New Guitar God" for a reason...
  19. Hmm.. So much for those who say Derek is only a Duane clone. Awesome phrasing. Always interesting. Not repetitive. I can envision a Coltrane sax or Miles Davis horn in his phrasing. Simply a superb 'new' guitarist starting out...
  20. im bored on cam someone want to chat aH
  21. amazing
  22. definitely taking from coltrane on this solo. derek is the most exciting guitarist around. i cant wait for the new album in january.
  23. the " keyboarder" just so happens to be Greg Allman.....
  24. The keyboarder looks like John Voight in "Noah's Ark"!^^ Incredible solo by the way...
  25. That's cool we all make mistakes. I still think its Ab B C but it doesn't matter. I have had a recent epiphany about this solo you might find interesting. In the beginning of the solo, before he takes out the slide, it sounds like he quotes "My Favorite Things" which is cool, but, the phrase that we have been discussing sounds like he is also quoting "Acknowledgement" from Love Supreme. Listen to it and you will hear what I'm talking about.
