The Musical Genius - Derek Paravicini Derek, now in his mid twenties, was born premature, at 25 weeks, and weighing just over half a kilogram. As a result of the oxygen therapy required to save his life, Derek lost his sight, and his development was affected too. It later became apparent that he had severe learning difficulties. However, he soon acquired a fascination for music and sound, and, by the age of four, had taught himself to play a large number of pieces on the piano, of some melodic and harmonic complexity (such as 'Smoke Gets in your Eyes'). Almost inevitably, with no visual models to guide him, his technique was chaotic, and even his elbows would frequently be pressed into service, as he strove to reach intervals beyond the span of his tiny hands!

  1. well.... I was talking in a manner of religeon... but ok.. if thats your opinion...
  2. The next stage of human evolution will involve genetic and electronic enhancement. Humans are inadvertently creating a new form of electronic life that will eventually supersede us. Because computers don't require sleep, once they can design themselves, they will not need to evolve or develop in 'human' or 'real' time. They will be comparatively indestructible (housed in a 'black-box' like shell), able to fly, swim, walk, run, drive, dig, climb, etc. Expecting organic aliens is also a mistake!
  3. Thats why I said "prototype"...
  4. I doubt it. Most of them can't even tie their own fucking shoelaces.

  9. "They are you're disciples, they will follow you to the end of the world"

  11. "Who are these people bowing down to me Kim"
  12. Derek is as close as any of you ever will get to a God, I'm not saying he's the God, but he is, if not a God, then a semi-God. As soon as I can, I will go see him, listen to him and worship him, all of you should follow my example.

  15. Derek Paravacini has such a beautiful soul. He is so gentle and amazing. He is a truly gifted musical savant. He has a website which on the top of it says "Without music life would be a mistake..." (Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche) That quote is so true. I just ordered his biography In the Key of Genius which I am looking very foward to reading. Dr. Adam Ockelford should be applauded for the time he has spent with Derek, helping him become the amazing musical artist he is now.
